Dancing the Night Away

By Megan Kummer

What we’ll remember…
Kara and Mike Angelo were married on June 2, 2013 in Cape May.
Kara recalls…
I grew up coming to Cape May because my parents had a shore house and my grandparents lived in Villas. I shared my love of Cape May with my now husband and he fell for the amazing beach town, too!
Before we were wed, my then fiancé would accompany me to Cape May to visit my grandmother who was residing at Crest Haven. She was suffering from Alzheimer’s and has since passed away. It was important for me to be married where my grandparents were once living because it made me feel like they were in attendance even though they were no longer with us.
On the day of the ceremony, my bridesmaids wore navy blue dresses. The guys’ side wore khaki colored suits with navy vests and Mike wore a white one!
Mike and I had our first dance to Blake Shelton’s version of “God Gave Me You”. I always liked that song and Mike thought it was very fitting for us. It’s our song!
I cried like a baby when I was dancing with my Dad. I think it hit me that, “WOW, I am a grown up!” My Daddy whispered in my ear that I was always going to be his little girl as we danced to “Stealing Cinderella”.
Afterwards, we started a conga line and did a couple of line dances! I think everyone truly enjoyed watching me dance with my brother-in-law, and all of the sudden I jumped down into a split! A split is impressive to begin with, but a split in a giant wedding gown – AWESOME!
When it was time to serve the cake, it is the normal newlyweds fashion to smash cake in each other’s faces. Well, I wasn’t letting this happen to me because I didn’t trust it would not get all over my gown. Instead, I chased after my older sister and smashed it in hers! Everyone roared with laughter… We had the BEST party! My neighbors, who are elderly, came and said it was the best wedding they had ever had the pleasure of attending. They sent ME a thank you for inviting them.
After it was all said and done, we did what most professional athletes do after winning the Super Bowl. WE WENT TO DISNEY WORLD! We did the Disney cruise for a few days and then did time on land at Disney World and stayed at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.
I don’t think I would change a thing about my wedding day. Except, I’d like to have had my grandparents present. I know they were there in spirit!
