Carroll Villa Provide Free Rooms to Veterans

By Jack Fichter

CAPE MAY— Mark Kulkowitz, owner of the Carroll Villa Hotel and Mad Batter Restaurant here on Jackson Street, provided free rooms to veterans Wed. Nov 10.
He served in the Headquarter’s Company, First Brigade, Third Armored Division in Germany 1976-1978.
A guesthouse in West Virginia introduced the idea of providing free rooms to veterans and free breakfast the following morning on Veteran’s Day, said Kulkowitz.
“There were thousands of bed and breakfasts’ all over America and different countries that decided to honor the veterans, so last night we gave up our hotel for all the veterans and had a great evening with people from all different generations, Korea, second world war, Vietnam, present day Coast Guard,” he said.
His father is a veteran of World War II. Kulkowitz said he had 40 veterans at the hotel and between 60 and 100 guests for dinner. Cape May Film Festival filmed a video of the event.
This is the first time Kulkowitz participated in the free stays and breakfasts. He holds an annual Battle of the Bulge luncheon which is schedule this year for December 15.
