Cape May Police Department Announces December Promotions

Chief Anthony Marino with newly promoted Sergeants Joseph Walker

By Press Release

CAPE MAY – At the Dec. 20 Cape May City Council Meeting, Chief of Police Anthony Marino announced the promotion of Officers Kenneth Cooper, Kristopher Mazza and Joseph Walker to the rank of sergeant.
Cooper has been serving the force since 2002. He is a field training officer, a physical fitness instructor at the Cape May County Police Academy, and has been recognized by past chiefs for outstanding efforts and enforcement in motor vehicle and criminal law.
Mazza has been serving since 2001. Mazza also is a field training officer, and past delegate and local representative for P.B.A. Local 59. He previously served the City as a Class 1 officer, prior to being hired as a full-time patrolman.
Walker has been serving since 2005. Until being promoted, Walker was a detective for the department. He was also a Class 2 officer for two summers in Cape May, as well as the evidence control officer, the department’s Alcohol Beverage Control officer and is also partly responsible for a number of grants received in the department for equipment.
“The selection process, for this time, was very difficult, and we had an excellent list of candidates in our department,” Marino said. “In the end, these three were chosen to lead our squads, and move the department forward for the future as sergeants.”
