CAPE MAY – The Cape May Police Department announces two designated location for the exchange of internet purchased items. In the current climate of concern over scams and crime from internet sales and communications, the Cape May Police Department is pleased to join with other area departments in offering a safe place for persons to meet to complete on-line transactions. The meet locations are designated by green signs which state ‘Meet up Spot’ and are within view of police department cameras that are monitored by Cape May Communications operators 24 hours a day. The signs were donated by Offer-UP – a mobile marketplace company.
Citizens who wish to use these spots for online transaction exchanges do not have to contact the department first; however can make contact with dispatch upon arrival to inform the department of the exchange. Officers will not be participants in any exchange.
“This is just one way that we can proactively serve the community as a whole by providing safe locations to hopefully prevent an issue from occurring instead of responding to one, stated Chief Anthony Marino; “Citizens both from inside the city limits and outside can exchange goods while feeling secure knowing that the area is being watched thereby limiting any fraud or potential violent situations.”
