CAPE MAY – Once again Cape May will join cities and towns nationwide this spring in an interfaith community CROP Walk. On April 28 at 10 a.m., the CROP Walk will step off from the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington Street and meander past Cape May’s Victorian treasures, down the Washington Street Mall and along the historic beachfront, then return to the Emlen Physick Estate, in an effort to acknowledge our millions of neighbors around the world who have to walk to live, as well as the millions served by local food pantries, food banks and meal sites here in the United States. Registration for the approximately 3 mile walk begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Physick Estate.
CROP is an acronym for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. It was started by Church World Service (CWS) at the end of World War II to share our country’s abundance with European war victims. Today, locally organized CWS-sponsored CROP Walks are an important part of community life for more than 2,000 towns and cities in the United States, bringing together people of different faiths, diverse cultures and age groups. In the last 15 years alone, CROP Walks have raised over $200 million to bring help and hope to people in need around the world and in the US.
CWS is an ecumenical ministry of 36 Christian denominations and communions working in partnership to eradicate hunger and poverty, and to promote peace and justice around the world. For a list of member denominations or a copy of their annual report, go to www.churchworldservice.org.
25% of funds raised by the Cape May CROP Walk will go to local hunger agencies to help our neighbors’ right here in Cape May County. Please walk with us, volunteer to help out, sponsor other walkers or make a donation. You can join our walk with your own congregation or community organization or come yourself to be part of the event. For more information please contact the First Presbyterian Church at 609-884-3949. Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
