COLD SPRING — The U.S. Coast Guard has recognized Joseph Giannattasio, a resident of Middle Township.
He recently received commendation from the Commodore of Coast Guard Patrol Forces Southwest Asia in recognition of his “care package and support” of forward deployed Coast Guard members in Bahrain and Kuwait. Giannattasio was presented the award in a ceremony by Master Chief W.D. Hollandsworth, former Command Master Chief of CG Patrol Forces Southwest Asia.
In April, Giannattasio developed and coordinated the donation of iTunes cards for the 269 Coast Guard personnel serving in the Arabian Gulf. Digital gift cards are among the most practical and useful comforts for the forward deployed and provides tangible appreciation for Coast Guard members serving far from home.
In a ceremony attended by area Auxiliarists, Hollandsworth presented Giannattasio with the award certificate. The certificate was accompanied by a letter of appreciation from Captain A.J Ceraolo, Commodore of Coast Guard Patrol Forces Southwest Asia, which read in part, “Your thoughtfulness and generosity were warmly received and greatly appreciated by all and helped fill the void of not being home with loved ones … Your tenacity and drive to see this project through to completion instills pride in all of us”
Joseph Giannattasio is a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and is the District Captain of the Auxiliary’s Fifth Northern region. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the all-volunteer component of the Coast Guard.
