Cape May County Professional Firefighters Wear Pink for October

By Press Release

CAPE MAY- Career Firefighters of Cape May County will once again be wearing pink for the month of October. Firefighters from Wildwood, North Wildwood, Ocean City and Cape May will not only be wearing pink tee shirts while on duty to help promote cancer awareness, but they also hope to raise funds by selling the Pink Shirts.
Starting in September, firefighters began selling shirts at local events throughout Cape May County. The departments involved are all active in raising funds for various charities throughout the year; however, this joint effort will mark the second time all four have come together for such a worthy cause.
Last year, the firefighters raised over $36,000 for Survivors of Cancer. Survivors of Cancer is a local group based in Wildwood, NJ, that help aide and assist in the fight against the devastating disease of cancer. All monies collected are used for Cape May County cancer patients, survivors, and organizations dedicated to the same cause.
Cape May Fire Department Lt. Michael Eck states, “All the firefighters involved are very grateful for the support from their communities last year. We are very fortunate to have been able to help in such a great cause and look forward to an even more successful event this year”.
Firefighters will be selling their newly redesigned pink shirts with their slogan “The Shore Fighting For A Cure” this year, and have also expanded to add new colors in hopes of boosting sales. The shirts are available for a $20 donation, sizes will be available ranging from youth to adult XXX-large. Shirts will be available at many street fairs, festivals and community events in the municipalities served. The shirts will also be in the fire stations of Cape May, Ocean City, North Wildwood and Wildwood.
The members of the North Wildwood FMBA 56, Wildwood FMBA 50, Ocean City FMBA 27 and Cape May IAFF 3495 are thankful to everyone that chooses to help them in supporting the fight against cancer. Anyone looking for additional information on how to purchase a shirt can visit or call any of the participating fire departments.
