COURT HOUSE — Though she resides in Gloucester County, the recently crowned Miss New Jersey must have a special place in her heart for Cape May County, where her road to Sept.’s Miss America Pageant began.
Brenna Weick, a vivacious 22-year-old resident of Mantua, competed three times in preliminary contests at The Performing Arts Center of Middle Township, before capturing a crown and advancing to another Cape May County venue, the Ocean City Music Pier, where she defeated 29 other contestants to become Miss New Jersey 2016.
Weick first competed in a preliminary contest at the PAC in 2013, finishing as first runner-up. She encored at the PAC in 2014, and once more finished as first runner-up. In 2015, she returned to her home town in the Gloucester County pageant and placed second runner-up. Undiscouraged, Weick persevered, returning to The PAC that same year, this time winning the Miss Seashore Line title that gained her entrance to the recent 2016 state event.
Two of Brenna’s most enthusiastic supporters, who see big things happening to Weick in the September 11th pageant in Atlantic City, are Kay Aspell, manager of The PAC and a hostess at the state pageant, and Carol Taylor, director of the Seashore Line Pageant, under whose banner Weick competed.
“You’ll be hearing more about and from her once the Miss America pageant begins,” predicts Aspell.
“We’re all very excited about her prospects,” adds Taylor.
Meanwhile, pageant season will continue at The PAC on Sun., July 17, at 5 p.m. when the first of six preliminary contests will be held. On that date, there will be three competitions: Miss Seashore Line, Miss Cape Shores and Miss Coastal Shore. The action continues on Sun., Aug. 14, at 5 p.m. when preliminary pageants will take place for the crowning of Misses Atlantic Shore, Eastern Shore and Southern Shore. Each of these winners will compete for the title of Miss New Jersey in June of 2017.
