COURT HOUSE – To celebrate the 75th year of BaySea District, Boy Scouts and Scouters in Cape May County have set their annual fund raising event for Oct. 28, 2013 to honor all active participants and two leading supporters have been selected as 2013 Distinguished Citizens.
Families, businesses leaders, community and supportive organizations, and all others interested are invited and welcome to contribute to Scouting by sponsoring, submitting advertising, and buying tickets for the Oct. 28 Reception at Avalon Links in Middle Township.
Gerald L. Reeves, President, CEO and Director of Sturdy Savings Bank and Scott Halliday, President and Co-Founder of Halliday-Leonard, Inc. have been selected as the 2013 Distinguished Citizens of the Year for the Cape May County section of BaySea District of the Garden State Council, Boy Scouts of America.
Annual Fall recruiting is now underway for youth throughout Cape May County to participate in Scouting. There are 28 active units with 552 members, 252 adult leaders, and many supportive businesses, sponsors, volunteers and individual donors to help provide resources for activities, advancements, and training opportunities.
The Oct. 28 event will begin with a reception from 6:00 pm and with dinner and a short program beginning at 7:00 p.m. Several levels of sponsorship are available to anyone interested in supporting Boy Scouts of America programs in Cape May County.

Each year, the “Good Scout” Statue is presented to community leaders who exemplify the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America as expressed in the Scout Law and Oath. Gerald Reeves and Scott Halliday have been selected as this year’s honorees for outstanding service to the community as evidenced by the interest and leadership they have provided to many worthwhile organizations and the respect and esteem in which they are regarded by their colleagues, friends, and neighbors.
The 2013 Distinguished Citizen Reception is chaired by scouting supporters James R. Blake, Treasurer & CFO of the Morey Organization and Vicki Clark, President of the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce.
Serving as co-chairs are Fred Coldren, Doug Heun, William Kindle, Anthony Monzo, Charles Pessagno, Lee Robinson, Brigitta Scott-Blake, Daniel Snodgrass, Thomas Tower, Ronnie Town and David VonSavage.
Prior honorees have included Senator Jeff Van Drew; Daniel Beyel, Former Freeholder Director of Cape May County; Thomas Tower of Action Supply; Will and Jack Morey of the Morey Organization; Charles Pessagno of Marsh McLennan Agency; Bill Kindle of Kindle Auto Plaza; Leonard Desiderio, Cape May County Freeholder and Mayor of Sea Isle City; Doug Heun from Friedman, LLP and Veronica Town with Atlantic City Electric.
BaySea District was founded in 1938 and is presently celebrating its 75th Anniversary of successful Scouting in 15 Cape May County municipalities. Cumberland county and portions of Atlantic and Salem Counties are also included within the expanded BaySea District.
