GRAND OPENING PARADE: 5:00 p.m.
Kick off for the Official Grand Opening. The Parade begins at the rear of the Fairgrounds. Boy Scout color guard, entertainment and 4-H members will all proceed around Betty Jean Lane for viewing by fairgoers. Music by Cape May County String Band. Parade will end at the main stage.
GRAND OPENING CEREMONIES: Following Opening Parade
Official opening of the festivities takes place at the Main Stage and at the Flagpole on the Fairgrounds. Features flag-raising, special guests, presentations and patriotic music.
LOCKWOOD 4-H YOUTH CENTER HANDS HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES: Noon-9:00 p.m.
“MAKER SPACE” CMC Library’s Learning Center and the Fuzzy Logic 4-H Robotics Club bring awesome technology, robots and hands-on activities for all ages.
“Scales & Tails 4-H Herpetology Exhibit” Cape May County’s reptile and herpetology 4-H club will showcase their herp, reptile, arachnid and amphibian projects. The projects will be on display during all open hours of the fair.
“4-H Teen Leaders Marine-Life Touch Tank” Don’t miss the fascinating display of live marine animals from the Nature Center of Cape May.
“Steven Serwatka’s Wildlife Rescue” Get to know a great cause and a few of the hundreds of unfortunate animals rescued each year by a local wildlife rehabilitator and his volunteers.
“4-H Club Make-N-Take Fun” Members of the Science Rocks, Needle & Thread and Maverick Arts 4-H Clubs will be on hand with fun, educational crafts and activities for the kids!
“4-H Best In Show and Members’ Project Displays” See what our 4-H members have been up to this year with their projects, including all of our Grand Champion winners. Interesting exhibits from photography to vegetables to science and more.
CHILDREN’S DISCOVERY AREA: Noon to 8:00 p.m. / Next To Lockwood 4-H Youth Center
Just for our youngest visitors, a unique interactive series of activities. In addition to longtime favorites, apple picking, egg gathering and potato digging, there will be pedal tractor races, a marine-life touch tank, the touch, taste and smell Irma McVey Memorial Herb Garden, and other educational activities geared for young visitors to explore and engage their senses. New this year: baby goats, alpacas and a horse!
SAWDOGS CHAINSAW ARTIST DEMONSTRATION AND AUCTION
New York chainsaw artist Matt Hass is a master of the chainsaw, producing incredibly delicate works of art from wood. Back by popular demand for all three days of the fair, Sawdogs will give four demonstrations daily. The items that he creates will be auctioned off on Saturday afternoon. Demo times announced daily.

An exciting challenge for fair visitors. Gather your friends and climb into life size plastic spheres to knock, bang and slam into each other around the Knocker Ball arena. Prepare for fun!

Locally grown, organic Jersey Fresh fruits and vegetables right at our 4-H Fair. Stock up on Jersey Fresh!
RUTGERS MASTER GARDENER MINI TALKS / Irma’s Herb Garden
3:30 p.m. “Meet Charlie the Caterpillar” Learn the life cycle of the butterfly, meet caterpillars up close, make your own caterpillar or plant caterpillar food.
4:30 p.m. “Interactive Garden Tour” Use your senses to explore Irma’s Garden, and make your own herbal bath salts.
6:30 p.m. “Butterfly Facts and Fables” Learn to discern butterfly facts from fiction as you take a walk around Irma’s Garden.
7:30 p.m. “Interactive Garden Tour…the Sequel” Use your senses to explore Irma’s Garden, and make your own herbal vinegar.
Visit the garden hospitality table to sample herb infused water and delightful lavender cookies. Irma’s Herb Garden is located near the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center.
CHICKEN BBQ: From 5:00 p.m. ‘til it’s gone’
A very popular tradition at the fair! The BBQ is sponsored by the Cape May County Board of Agriculture, and features delicious BBQ chicken, farm fresh vegetables, chips, cranberry sauce, roll and butter, beverage and dessert. Served by volunteers and local dignitaries. Take-out also available. Tickets available on the Fairgrounds from 4:00 p.m. on in the Chicken BBQ Ticket Booth. $12.50 adults; children (12 and under) $7.00.
LIVESTOCK EVENTS:
4-H Goat Showmanship and Judging: 2:00 p.m. / Coover Livestock Pavilion (rear of fairgrounds)
4-H members will show an interesting variety of goat breeds for a score of good, very good or excellent (Danish Scoring System). The 4-Hers are also judged on their showmanship ability.
4-H Livestock Auction: 6:30 p.m. / Livestock Barn
Project market lambs and hogs are sold to the highest bidder. A unique opportunity to fill your freezer with high quality, humanely and locally raised meat – also great to split with a friend or donate to a worthwhile charity! Bidders welcome!
EQUINE EVENTS:
Showmanship & Grooming and Halter Day: 9:00 a.m. on throughout the afternoon/Horse Show Arena (rear of fairgrounds)
Horse shows where 4-H horse club members demonstrate their in-hand showmanship skills and exhibit their horses’ conformation, competing for the best model horses. The day also includes the Versatility Division in the afternoon, testing horse and rider skills in tough English and Western competition to determine the most versatile horse and rider combination.

Moonlight Riders 4-H Drill Team Exhibition:
Cape May County’s 4-H mounted drill team will unveil their exciting new routine of choreographed riding set to music. This will be the team’s 15th year of performances.
Graduating Seniors Exhibition Class:
This equine event honors our graduating high school seniors and youth members in their final year of 4-H.
Fancy & Funny Equine Costume Classes:
Elaborate and hilarious costume displays featuring 4-H horse club members and their project animals.
MAIN STAGE ENTERTAINMENT:

English Day: 9:00 a.m. / Horse Show Arena
English horse show featuring jumping and under saddle classes. Includes a Western Go English division, where 4-H members with stock-type horses try their skills at English events in English tack, and exciting Pairs and Teams classes for groups of two and three riders working in tandem. Includes future 4-Her and leadline participation for young 4-H children.

A qualified judge evaluates 4-H project members’ many different breeds of chickens, turkeys and ducks for breed characteristics and condition. Members’ showmanship abilities will also be judged.

This entertaining event is a skills competition featuring the top 4-H Showmanship Grand Champion in each project animal: horse, hog, goat, sheep, poultry and rabbit. Each competitor must show all six animals according to their species standards.
