Wildwoods Boardwalk Named Among Sherman’s Travel’s “Top 10 U.S. Boardwalks”

By Press Release

THE WILDWOODS – The Wildwoods have received a second major honor this month as the Wildwoods Boardwalk was once again named one of Sherman’s Travel’s “Top 10 American Boardwalks” for 2011. Earlier this month, the Wildwoods Boardwalk was named among National Geographic Traveler’s “Top 10 U.S. Boardwalks.”
According to the Sherman’s Travel website, the nationally-recognized Wildwoods Boardwalk was included on the list for being “a center for a rebellious rock-and-roll music scene in the 1950s and ’60s,” still evident in the island’s distinct Doo-Wop architecture, as well as offering “good ole family fun” on its two mile long beach-fronted boardwalk which offers more rides than Disneyland and is one of the kid-friendliest boardwalks in the country – complete with amusement piers, water parks, arcades & carnival style games and boardwalk fare like funnel cakes, curly fries, and cotton candy cones.
Sherman’s Travel is one of the country’s leading publishers of top travel deals and destination advice for consumers.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be among Sherman’s Travel’s ‘Top 10 American Boardwalks once again,” said John Siciliano, Executive Director for the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement & Development Authority (GWTIDA). “This accolade, along with all of the other recognition we’ve received from renowned publications and websites over the past years, is a huge credit to all of our visitors, as well as each and every person that works tirelessly to continue making the Wildwoods Boardwalk one of the country’s most incredibly unique attractions.”
This is the third year in a row that the Wildwoods have been part of Sherman’s Travel’s “Top 10 American Boardwalks” list – having been recognized on the list in 2009 and 2010. The Wildwoods have also been recognized as one of TripAdvisor’s top three “Travelers’ Choice Family Award-Winning U.S. Amusement Park Destinations” and one of National Geographic Traveler’s “Top 10 U.S. Boardwalks” in 2011; Smarter Travel’s “Best Beach Town In America For a Classic Experience” in 2010; and one of Forbes Traveler’s “Top Ten American Boardwalks” in 2009.
In addition to its award-winning boardwalk, the Wildwoods are also home to “New Jersey’s Best Beaches” as awarded by the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium in 2011 and 2010, as well as over 180 festivals and events throughout the year, plus the country’s largest concentration of mid-century “Doo-Wop” architecture.
