WILDWOOD — Commissioner Ed Harshaw is watching closely to see how privatization of Wildwood’s trash services proceeds, and, so far, he says, reports are positive.
Blue Diamond Disposal, a private trash and recycling collection company, recently contracted with Wildwood and is expected to save the City about $1 million per year.
Harshaw, who oversees Public Works, said the new service is being commended by some business owners and residents for timely and productive pick-up.
“I always said that sanitation workers were among the most important people in my life, because they help keep my city clean,” says Mary Erceg, manager of the Heart of Wildwood Motel. “Blue Diamond moves fast. They’re very efficient and very driven.”
“There was a brief period of adjustment while rerouting the zones to accommodate a 6-day trash schedule,” said Bob Webster of Blue Diamond Disposal. “But after a few modifications, the pick-up in Wildwood is running smoothly.”
According to Webster, only one former Wildwood Public Works employee applied for a job with Blue Diamond; he is now working full-time for the company and was complimented for his “diligence and hard work” by Webster.
