RIO GRANDE — In commemoration of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Walgreens Districts in Central and Southern New Jersey will host their first Alex’s Lemonade Stand Day on Sat., Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. -4 p.m. at 64 Walgreens locations throughout the area.
Walgreens team members were inspired to get involved with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation after hearing the story of Alexandra “Alex” Scott.
After finding out how easy it was to get involved, they decided to hold lemonade stands of their own. After other districts in the area successfully hosted similar events, these two districts decided to capitalize on the momentum and enthusiasm among the team.
ALSF emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). 2010 marks 10 years since 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer.
Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope.
To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $35 million towards fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 150 research projects nationally.
