By Herald Staff

RIO GRANDE – A call to the ShopRite store at around 8 p.m. confirmed reports the store was reopened. The store had been evacuated and temporarily closed, as a safety precaution, when a leaky refrigeration unit created “foggy” conditions.
Previously Reported –
RIO GRANDE – The ShopRite store here was evacuated this afternoon and remained closed for several hours.
Shoppers reported seeing “fog” or “smoke” in the store. Richard Sweeten, Chief of Rio Grande Fire Company Station 72, attributed the hazy atmosphere to a “freon-like” substance which had leaked from a refrigeration unit. For the safety of shoppers, the store was evacuated and closed, until the leak was fully contained and the air cleared.
