United Way’s Rubber Ducky Regatta Makes $47,100 Splash to Drive Impact in CMC

WILDWOOD — United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ) in Cape May County today announced an impressive $47,100 raised from the 21st Annual United Way Rubber Ducky Regatta which took place Sunday, August 17, at Morey’s Piers Mariner’s Landing in Wildwood.
Proceeds will support UWGPSNJ’s Impact Fund, which improves lives in Cape May County through strategic investments in Education, Income, and Health — the building blocks to a successful life — as well as strengthening the regional social safety net. Through the Impact Fund, UWGPSNJ supports quality education from cradle to career, opportunities for adults to build skill sets and secure work that pays a family-sustaining wage, and provides access to the resources residents need to lead healthy lives and have their basic needs met.
“The true Impact of this event goes well beyond just dollars and cents,” said Joe Scheufele, Vice President, Marina Energy/Energenic, LLC, and chair of UWGPSNJ’s Local Operating Board in Cape May County. “This extraordinary effort is a collective commitment to advancing the work of United Way to build brighter futures for our most vulnerable neighbors in Cape May County.”
In its 21 years, the United Way Rubber Duck Regatta has raised a remarkable $587,000 to support vital health and human services in Cape May County. The event’s success is due in large part to a number of community businesses that pledge their support through sponsorship. These include: Morey’s Piers and Beachfront Waterparks, South Jersey Industries, 1st Bank of Sea Isle City, McDonald’s, Crest Savings Bank, ShopRite, Compassionate Care Hospice, AtlantiCare, Atlantic City Electric, Cape Bank, One Off Marketing, Gaiss’ Market, Atlantic Cape Community College, Genesis Healthcare, Cape May Brewing Company, Kramer Beverage, Greater Wildwood Elks #1896, Shore Title Agency, Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce, Avalon Golf Club, Country Club Tavern, Town Bank Builders, Super Liquors, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 44. Media partners were Herald Newspapers and Coastal Broadcasting.
Additionally, a host of prizes was donated by local vendors to accompany the winning ducks, including the top prizes of a Wildwood vacation courtesy of Senior Excursions Inc., a $500 ShopRite gift certificate, two beach cruisers from Zippy’s Bikes in Wildwood, season passes to Morey’s Piers, a flat screen television and more!
“It is only through the collaborative teamwork of volunteers, sponsors and donors that we are able to achieve success and continue our work to transform lives right here in Cape May County,” said John Emge, executive director of UWGPSNJ in Atlantic and Cape May Counties. “Together, we drive measurable, lasting impact in each of our local communities that none of us can achieve alone.”
