NORTH CAPE MAY — Due to slimmer than expected traffic demand, Cape May-Lewes Ferry officials have cancelled several crossings.
The June 16 announcement, Cape May – Lewes Ferry officials announced that several departures leaving both Cape May, New Jersey and Lewes, Delaware, have been cancelled.
Except for July 3 and July 7, the following departures have been cancelled every Monday and Thursday through Aug. 28:
Leaving Cape May, Leaving Lewes, Del.
10:15 a.m., noon
1:45 p.m., 3:30 p.m.
In addition, the following round trip will not be offered on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays beginning June 20 and continuing through Aug. 31:
Leaving Cape May, NJ Leaving Lewes, Del.
7:00 p.m., 5:15 p.m.
According to Heath Gehrke, director of Ferry Operations, traffic demand has not matched the published schedule this year.
“We want to make sure our customers are alerted to these adjustments prior to arriving at the ferry,” Gehrke stated in a release. “We strongly encourage customers to call ahead or check the schedule online before making travel plans. Reservations are now free so it’s in the customer’s best interest to reserve their place onboard the vessel.”
“We will continue to monitor our traffic trends, and add crossings back to the schedule if demand warrants it,” Gehrke added. “Pre-reservation levels are crucial to determining this demand.”
Reservations are free and discounts are available for booking online.
