THE WILDWOODS – The Wildwoods Convention Center has been selected for the Economic Impact Award by Southern New Jersey Business People (SNJBP), a New Jersey business-focused publication. This award recognizes organizations and projects that have made a dramatic impact on the economic development of the region.
The Wildwoods Convention Center hosts more than 150 events annually and serves as the home to scores of signature events, conventions, meetings, banquets, concerts, weddings, tournaments and much more. The Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA), operates the Wildwoods Convention Center on behalf of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, the building’s owners, and acts as the island’s destination marketing organization overseeing the development, research, planning, marketing, advertising, promotion, public and media relations encompassing the tourism, meeting and convention industry in the Wildwoods.
“We are thrilled to receive the prestigious Economic Impact Award by Southern New Jersey Business People and grateful to be recognized for the hard work and determination of our GWTIDA board and staff, along with all of our supporting partners, who have helped make the Wildwoods Convention Center a premiere economic development engine for Southern New Jersey,” said John Siciliano, Executive Director/CFO for GWTIDA.
More than 150 events, meetings and trade shows take place year-round at the Wildwoods Conventions Center, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to the state and the destination, generating over 132,000 sleeping room nights, over one million dining opportunities and providing an overall yearly economic impact of over $50 Million. GWTIDA’s primary mission is to promote these events and the Wildwoods as a destination. GWTIDA’S staff and all-volunteer board have spent many years and thousands of hours developing strategies and creating and funding events to benefit the region’s economic vitality. This has led to a stronger and more competitive economy; and with an extension of the season well into the autumn months, more jobs and increased business.
GWTIDA plays an important role in this award as well as for the island. It is dedicated to seeing the entire community thrive by creating events and building on successful strategies. The staff regularly attends meetings with local and regional officials to strategize on the optimal approaches that will provide economic benefit the region.
SNJBP Magazine, which focuses on eight New Jersey counties, selected the Wildwoods Convention Center for the Economic Impact Award because it is an enterprise that has contributed to the economic vitality of the region.
“The Wildwoods Convention Center was the first venue of its kind to be singled out for this prestigious award,” stated Jenny Ryan, publisher of SNJBP Magazine. “The selection was based on the venue’s ability to draw events to the region and due to the significant investment in this state-of-the-art facility, it has advanced New Jersey, not only as a great place to vacation but as a great place to work, play and convene,” Ryan added.
The Wildwoods Convention Center is in good company with this prestigious award that is shared with eight businesses and organizations including: Atlantic City Utilities Authority, PSE&G Nuclear, Revel Entertainment, Lockheed Martin, ACIN, RiverLine, Adventure Aquarium and Shore Medical Center. The award will be presented on Wed., Nov. 28 at an invitation-only reception.
