The Wildwoods Are a Winter Wonderland of Family Fun December 2010 through February 2011

WILDWOOD– The Wildwoods are prepared to keep visitors feeling warm throughout the winter by welcoming one and all to enjoy the festive, family-oriented holiday celebrations and fun-filled special events taking place December 2010 through February 2011.
Winter season in the Wildwoods kicks off Friday, December 3, as the five-mile island celebrates the holiday season with a weekend of festive events for the entire family – starting with the annual Hereford Inlet Lighthouse Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, which will include a visit from Santa Claus and refreshments for all in attendance. The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and is FREE to attend. The ceremony will take place at the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse, located at 1st and Central Avenues in North Wildwood.
Also on Friday, December 3, the Greater Wildwood Jaycees Christmas Parade, part of the Wildwoods Family Holiday Celebration, will begin at 7 p.m., featuring a festive line-up of floats, fire trucks, and other celebratory vehicles showing Santa Claus the way through the streets of the Wildwoods! Parade-goers are encouraged to bundle up, pack chairs or blankets, and bring lots of hot chocolate while enjoying the FREE holiday parade.
Immediately following the Greater Wildwood Jaycees Holiday Parade, the holiday fun continues at the Wildwoods Convention Center with a special Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. A Shopping Bazaar inside the Convention Center featuring holiday-themed crafters offering one-of-a-kind gift items will begin at 6:30 p.m. After the tree lighting ceremony, head inside the Convention Center and warm up with FREE hot chocolate and cookies! The Christmas Parade awards ceremony will begin following the Tree Lighting Ceremony.
On Saturday, December 4, the FREE Wildwoods Family Holiday Celebration continues inside the Wildwoods Convention Center from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. with a full day of festive activities including the Holiday Shopping Bazaar, crafting; face painting; holiday performances by local school children’s choruses and bands; music; a magician; FREE holiday movies with FREE popcorn provided; and, last but not least, a final visit from Santa Claus before he comes down your chimney!
The Wildwoods annual Boardwalk Basketball Classic begins the day after Christmas – Sunday, December 26 – through New Year’s Eve – Friday, December 31. The Boardwalk Basketball Classic is the largest co-ed high school basketball tournament in the country featuring over 30 teams from throughout the tri-state region. The Boardwalk Basketball Classic is a non-profit event that raises college scholarship money for graduating seniors for the two high schools that host the annual tournament: Wildwood and Wildwood Catholic. Winter in the Wildwoods continues into the month of January when the island kicks off 2011 with the 5th Annual Wildwoods Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics Saturday, January 15 beginning at 1 p.m. The Plunge attracts the region’s most daring men and women as they take a dip in the icy Atlantic Ocean to help raise money forthe more than 21,000 Special Olympics athletes that train and compete, year-round, throughout New Jersey. In February, the Wildwoods invite man’s best friend to the Wildwoods Convention Center on Wednesday, February 2 through Sunday, February 6, for the Boardwalk Kennel Club All Breed Dog Show, a pre-cursor to the Westminister Dog Show. This five-day event will feature ‘Best of Breed” competition among many competitions. Additionally, vendors will be present offering unique merchandise for those looking for something special to pamper their pooch including collars and leashes, books and training tools, special treats and everything in between.
