In June of this year, the ladies of Monday “MahJongg Madness” gave back in a great way to CARA – The Coalition Against Rape and Abuse. If playing the game of MahJongg wasn’t difficult enough to play, the group, who meets every Monday at 12 noon at the Deauville Inn in Strathmere, decided to take on a fundraiser that brought awareness to CARA and the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault. The ladies decided to hold a Monday MahJongg Madness event, where over 100 MahJongg enthusiasts came to play, learn about CARA services and win big! Through countless hours of collecting door prizes and organizing the big MahJongg day of play, Wendy Doughtery and her team consisting of Nancy Fullam, Dottie Connery, Claire Lamb, Sallie Callahan and Ginny Eiden, with the help of the Deauville Inn, raised $5,000 for CARA. Throughout the event 50/50 tickets were sold and door prizes were passed out. The MahJongg ladies as well as customers of the Deauville Inn were able to learn about CARA and services provided FREE of charge to anyone in need.
“This was a phenomenal event, with fun had by all who attended. Not only are these ladies serious about MahJongg, but they are serious about giving back and helping those in the community,” stated CARA’s Director of Community and Volunteer Relations, Nikki Nichols. “With help from groups like the Monday MahJongg ladies, we will be able to help those effected by domestic violence and sexual assault daily. We are so grateful for the support they have given our organization.”
