Stockton’s New Gaming Book Receives High Marks

By Press Release

POMONA — The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey’s book, Casino Gaming in Atlantic City: A Thirty Year Retrospective, has earned accolades in the April edition of UNLV’s Gaming Research & Review Journal.
Reviewed by Betty McNeal, editor of UNLV’s Gaming Research & Review Journal, the book is described as “a well-deserved tribute to a small city determined to profit from legalized gambling with a noble purpose in mind.”
“The journal refers to our book as an ‘impressive volume’ and suggests it is ‘highly recommended’ reading. We couldn’t be happier with the review we’ve received from UNLV,” said Dr. Brian Tyrrell, one of the book’s editors and associate professor with Stockton’s Hospitality and Tourism Management Department.
“We are honored to be recognized by fellow scholars, the media and the general public. Thanks to the support of these groups, our book has achieved a scholarly status and will be going into a second printing next month,” says Dr. Israel Posner, the book’s second editor and executive director of the new Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality and Tourism.
Casino Gaming in Atlantic City: A Thirty Year Retrospective offers an insightful look at how the Atlantic City casino industry has evolved over three decades and its contribution to the region’s economic development through a compilation of research papers. Topics include transportation, workforce and employment, crime, marketing, casino technology, gambling addiction, casino and gaming taxes and overall economic impact.
Posner and Tyrrell edited the book, which has many notable contributors including several Stockton, Rutgers and Drexel faculty members; Michael Pollock of Spectrum Gaming Group; Nick Casiello Jr., of Fox Rothschild; Jeff Vasser of the Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority; and Judge (and former state senator) Steven Perskie.
Casino Gaming in Atlantic City: A Thirty Year Retrospective was funded by several Stockton units including the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy, the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies, the New Jersey Center for Hospitality and Tourism Research and the School of Business.
Sponsorship support was also provided by Fox Rothschild, LLP and Spectrum Gaming Group. Published by Comteq Publishing, the book will go into second printing in June 2010.
