COURT HOUSE – Stephany Britton, RN, who works in the Maternal and Child Health Center at Cape Regional Medical Center, has been honored with January’s Service Excellence Award.
“Dec. 28, the primary caregiver of one of our special needs babies told Stephany she would not be able to come and visit the baby for the remainder of the month. The caregiver usually visits daily for 6-7 hours and cares for the infant, taking the bus to the hospital every day. Due to the additional expenses associated with the holiday season, she was not going to have the finances until the beginning of the New Year for her visits. Stephany paid for the caregiver’s bus fare. The caregiver offered to repay her, but Stephany wouldn’t hear of it. She said she was happy to do it and it was important for the baby to have someone here to visit on a regular schedule. This is exceptional care at its best,” wrote Kelly Coulter, RN, Maternal and Child Health at Cape Regional Medical Center.
“Stephany is always a great resource for all our staff. She is knowledgeable and always willing to share her knowledge. Stephany leads the mandated newborn hearing screenings and follow up program at Cape Regional Medical Center, and she has been commended for her leadership role with this program by the Department of Health,” stated Mary Beth Decredico, RN, MSN, Administrative Director of Maternal and Child Care.
“How wonderful to be honored in this way,” stated Ms. Britton. “Making sure our patients – especially our tiniest patients – have the care they need is the focus of our entire maternity and child health team. This was such a small gesture for me compared to the dedication of this child’s caregiver. She is the real hero.”
Stephany and her husband Bruce live in Erma with their three sons, Chris, Zack and Josh. Stephany has been a team member at Cape Regional Medical Center since February, 1988.
