RIO GRANDE — Work began today, Tuesday Oct. 27, on a South Jersey Gas natural gas pipeline starting at Route 9 and Maryland Avenue here that will eventually end in Wildwood.
The pipeline will span down Maryland Avenue to 6th Street, then from 6th Street to Route 47. On Route 47 the pipeline will span towards Middle Thorofare Bridge, where contractor J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc. will bore under the bay, and terminate in Wildwood at Mediterranean and Taylor avenues.
Superintendent Charles Fasciano told the Herald work in the residential area will be finished within two weeks and work on Route 47 will continue for about a month and a half.
He said area streets would be open to residential traffic.
There will be some road closures on the shoulder of Route 47 and a possible temporary lane closure between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, once work begins there.
A regulator station will be built at Taylor and Mediterranean avenues in Wildwood to regulate natural gas pressures for residential use distribution. Fasciano said the pipeline work would not affect residential gas use.
