FOLSOM, N.J. – On Wednesday, Nov. 15, community members and leaders, elected officials, project partners, employees, Board members and friends of South Jersey Gas (SJG) gathered on the site of the company’s new, state-of-the-art corporate headquarters in Atlantic City for a Topping Off Ceremony, celebrating a construction milestone for the project.
“South Jersey Gas has been fortunate to experience consistent growth over the years,” said Dave Robbins, President of South Jersey Gas. “This project will allow us to accommodate our expanding workforce, while supporting the continued growth of our company. When completed, our new headquarters will enable us to best serve our customers, employees and communities across southern New Jersey.”
The event featured remarks from elected officials and project partners, including: Atlantic City Mayor Donald Guardian; Dennis Levinson, County Executive for Atlantic County; Joseph R. Jingoli, Jr., CEO of Joseph Jingoli & Sons, Inc.; and Will Pauls, President of the South Jersey Building Trades. Attendees were invited to affix their signatures to a steel beam that was then hoisted into place, completing the steel framework of the 75,000-square-foot facility.
Construction on SJG’s new headquarters began earlier this year as part of a unique, innovative collaboration known as the Atlantic City Gateway project – a $210 million public-private redevelopment initiative in the city. When finished, the building will house approximately 200 company professionals and feature dynamic office space with modern workstations, training facilities, ample meeting space and exciting amenities for its employees. Along with SJG’s headquarters, the Gateway project will also include a beachfront satellite campus for Stockton University and an 879-space parking garage with 7,000 square feet of retail space, all constructed on 270,000 square feet of land. Construction on the SJG office building is scheduled to be completed in late 2018.
“Atlantic City is transforming right in front of our eyes,” continued Robbins. “Being part of the Gateway project presented us with the opportunity to go back to our roots – we knew we could bring valuable employment opportunities to the city, and contribute to its revival as an economic engine for both the region and state as a whole.”
SJG was previously headquartered in Atlantic City – with offices located on North Michigan and Atlantic Avenues. The company remained in the city for approximately 60 years, until corporate headquarters was moved to their current location in Folsom.
Added Robbins, “South Jersey Gas is excited to be a part of Atlantic City’s revitalization. We are proud to be ‘coming home’ to the place we originally got our start.”
