WOODBINE– Construction crews for the South Jersey Gas (SJG) main extension project officially started the installation of the natural gas main that will serve the municipal building, school, fire department in addition to the many homes and businesses that have already applied for service.
“We recognize that many in Woodbine have waited a long time for natural gas and we appreciate their patience and the support of Mayor Pikolycky during this process,” stated Bob Fatzinger, vice president customer and distributions operation. “This extension project provides the municipality, business owners and residents with a great opportunity to lower their energy costs by switching to a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly fuel source.”
SJG is working with Mayor Pikolycky to coordinate outreach efforts and is planning a Community Information Day in the near future to assist residents and business owners in better understanding their energy options and to answer any questions community members may have regarding the project.
“The State Board of Public Utilities is providing incentives for replacement, upgrades, etc. for those switching to natural gas. By contacting South Jersey Gas and going to their website, more information on these incentives is available,” noted Mayor Pikolycky. “This has been along-awaited project finally come to fruition. The main construction should be completed in about 30 days.
This area consists of DeHirsch Avenue/Route 550, Washington Avenue, and Monroe Avenue.”
For the extension project, SJG has contracted with J.F. Kiely Construction, which maintains an office in Swainton, to install what is referred to as the trunk line, the main feeder that will be installed underground on DeHirsch Avenue.
Residents can expect to see a number of blue and yellow trucks identified by the contractor’s name “JF Kiely” present in the area. In addition, SJG inspectors will be onsite to assure quality control. They will be identified by white trucks with the SJG logo. There will be appropriate traffic control efforts consistent with the MUTCD standards and in accordance with the local authority’s requirements.
Following installation of the gas main, SJG will install additional main and services to customers in the area, beginning with the areas that express the greatest interest in receiving natural gas service. Residents who may be interested in applying for gas service can pick up applications in the community center at 812 Longfellow Street or the municipal building at 501 Washington Avenue.
