SOC Celebrates 10 years

By Press Release

We, the SOC organization, are proud to be celebrating our 10th year offering help to residents of Cape May County going through cancer treatments
Our organization was founded in the spring of 2002. The main motivator was Jimmy Kane.
Many people in this area would know him as the owner of the Red Garter Bar, Spruce and New Jersey aves., North Wildwood.
Kane enlisted the help of many volunteers, some of whom were cancer survivors, and some who had lost a loved one or family member to cancer. His idea was to raise funds through various events to help those people in the county who had been diagnosed with cancer.
Our first four fundraisers were held at Westy’s in North Wildwood. We have since made it an annual event on the second Saturday in August.
This year our 10th annual was held at Lighthouse Pointe Restaurant on August 13 — our sixth year at the Pointe.
Like all the others, this year was a great success due to the efforts of the wonderful support from local businesses and residents. We look forward to seeing you in 2012.
In addition to our main event, we also have a Welcome to Summer Beef & Beer. In the fall, we have a very successful Soup & Sandwich fundraiser at a local restaurant.
We are extremely grateful to all our loyal supporters who have made it possible for us to help more than 700 cancer patients, and with your help, we will be able to continue our work.
