ATLANTIC CITY – Showboat Hotel and Casino owners announced that the establishment will close August 31, according to a report on NBC 40.
Caesars Entertainment told NBC 40, the difficult decision to close the property follows persistent declines in business levels in the area exacerbated by the high property-tax burden in Atlantic City.
President Bob McDevitt, of Unite HERE Local 54 confirmed to NBC 40 June 26 that more than 2,000 Showboat employees will be given WARN Act notices.
“While we regret the impact that this decision will have on our Showboat associates, we believe this is a necessary step to help stabilize our business in Atlantic City and support the viability of our remaining operations in the vicinity,” Gary Loveman, CEO of Caesars Entertainment told NBC 40.
Showboat will remain open until its closure and will honor room reservations and scheduled events until then. Assistance will be given to those with reservations after August 31, to help them find new accommodations.
