ShopRite of Rio Grande and Cheerios Celebrate 20 Years of Good

Every fall, thousands of ShopRite associates compete in a friendly competition to fight hunger – the ShopRite Partners In Caring Cheerios Contest is sponsored by ShopRite and General Mills. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of fighting hunger by donating money and product to local food banks. All ShopRite associates raised $1.5 million to support local food banks.
ShopRite of Rio Grande and the Village Super Markets were recognized April 2 for their outstanding hunger-fighting efforts. As part of this recognition, Customer Service Manager, Janice Di Gaetano and Cashier, Crystal Williams were featured on a special-edition Cheerios box. For ShopRite of Rio Grande, being among the top winning stores is a longstanding tradition. Janice has been pictured on the Cheerios box four times out of the 11 years ShopRite of Rio Grande has been featured on the special-edition Cheerios box.
The celebration included the unveiling of the special Cheerios edition box in front of giant Cheerios display complete with a store baked cheerios decorated cake for the occasion. Will Sumas, of Village Super Markets, awarded Store Manager, Steven Van Seeters, Janice and Crystal with their own special edition box in recognition of their efforts and contributions.
The ShopRite Rio Grande associates collected donations at check-out and held in stores events along with a beef n beer benefit to raise awareness and money. Through the generosity of their customers and the caring efforts of their associates, the store raised $13,071.01 for this cause. Crystal was top cashier earning to greatest donations at the check-out.
As a winning store, ShopRite of Rio Grande received $500 and donated it to the Bethel Community Food Bank supported by the Bethel Commandment Church in Whitesboro.
Many people in attendance at the ceremony mentioned that being a winning store wouldn’t be possible without Janice. Her passion to fight hunger spreads to the associates, and it enables them to work together and make an impact in the community year after year.
