ShopRite Honorary Baggers Help Fight Hunger

By Al Campbell

RIO GRANDE — ShopRite grocery baggers for a cause were Middle Township Mayor Susan DeLanzo, Vera Smith and Kimberly Bada from Cape Human Resources on Wed., Sept. 21.
At ShopRite of Rio Grande, DeLanzo, Smith and Bada, of Cape Human Resources, bagged groceries to raise awareness and funds to benefit local food pantries.
Their joint bagging actions were to commemorate “ShopRite Partners in Caring Day” in honor of September as National Hunger Action Month, as declared by Gov. Chris Christie along with chief executives of New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.
Dignitaries, such as DeLanzo and Smith, set upon a mission to “help bag hunger” at local ShopRites.
Similar activities also took place at the Marmora ShopRite on the same day.
According to a release, “Nearly 50 million Americans, including 17 million children, suffer from food insecurity, ShopRite Partners in Caring, a year-round community based hunger-fighting charity, helps raise awareness and inspire action within the community through hunger fighting initiatives.
“Since its inception in 1999, ShopRite Partners in Caring has donated more than $27 million to local food banks that support 1,700 charities in providing food assistance throughout the Northeast.”
