Senators Announce FAA Funds for Cape May County Airport

By Al Campbell

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Upgrades to taxiways at Cape May County Airport in Erma will be made with funding by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Sens. Robert Menendez and Frank Lautenberg announced the $601,166 grant on Friday, Feb. 27.
According to a joint release, the funds will pay for Phase 3 rehabilitation of taxiways B and D. The work will include milling of the taxiway pavement as well as upgrades to marking and lighting.
Cape May County Airport is a 1,000-acre general aviation airport located near Rio Grande in Erma, approximately five miles from Cape May, has two runways, six taxiways and three aircraft parking ramps.
WWD logs approximately 39,000 airplane and helicopter takeoffs and landings each year, primarily during May through September, peak travel months. Traffic includes corporate aviation, recreational fliers, charter operators and small-aircraft owners, according to the facility’s Web site.
The airport has both airside facilities and an industrial park, which are being developed for aviation and business uses.
The Delaware River and Bay Authority has renovated the main terminal building, which features The Cornerstone Grill and Catering for the convenience of fliers, visitors and neighbors. Terminal space will also be available for lease.
Hangar No. 1, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, houses a developing aircraft museum.
