CAPE MAY – Join the Nature Center of Cape May for its continuing evening lecture series called “Seaside Connections” each Tues. this fall at 6:30 p.m.
The Tues., Nov, 1 lecture will feature Greg DiDomenico from the Garden State Seafood Association. The Garden State Seafood Association is a statewide organization of commercial fishermen and fishing companies, related businesses and individuals working in common cause to promote the interests of the commercial fishing industry and seafood consumers in New Jersey.
The group’s primary goal is to assure that our marine resources are managed responsibly and that all of the people in New Jersey, whether as anglers or as seafood consumers, will be able to enjoy the bounty of our state’s rich coastal and offshore waters for generations. That is the association’s pledge to those who catch fish as their livelihood, to those who go fishing for recreation and for the millions who enjoy eating seafood in restaurants and at home.
DiDomenico’s lecture will include a brief video of research efforts, fishing operations and the GSSA’s shoreside facilities. It will demonstrate actual fishing methods, several gear types and how fish are processed.
In addition, he will review the current status of the fish stocks that occur in the Mid-Atlantic region and briefly discuss how those fisheries are managed.
Join us for coffee, confections and seaside connections and learn more about the fascinating state of fisheries in the garden state. Additional topics with historical, adventure and nautical themes will continue throughout the fall, including Robert Elwell on November 8 with a look at Cape May’s rich history. Call the nature center at 609.898.8848 for complete details and to learn more about future topics.
A nominal fee of $5.00 will be charged. Lectures will take place in the Nature Center’s Education Hall at the Nature Center of Cape May’s home on Cape May Harbor, 1600 Delaware Ave., in Cape May.
