CAPE MAY – The city is reporting a 3 percent drop in revenue from tourist related items such room tax collections and parking meter revenue while beach tag income rose.
At a Tues., Aug. 17 meeting, City Manager Bruce MacLeod reported parking meter revenue through the end of July was off 3 percent, dropping from $485,437 last year to $471,091 this year, a difference of $14,347.
He said room tax revenue for the year-to-date as of the end of May, the latest figures available from the state, show a 3 percent decrease from last year dropping from $229,375 in 2009 to $217,742 this year.
Beach tag sales through July 31 showed an increase of 7 percent over last year increasing from $1,204,073 in 2009 to $1,288,297 this year, said MacLeod.
He said weather is a factor in beach tag sales.
“I can tell you the first two weeks of August we are suffering a little bit in our beach tag sales because we have had a couple of rainy, cloudy days and a couple of odd foggy days,” said MacLeod
