SEA ISLE CITY – After experiencing the heart-ache of cancer first hand, the owners of Marita’s Ice Cream Shop, 60th and Landis Avenue in Sea Isle City, will celebrate their 25th year in business by hosting a “Cones for a Cure” fund raiser beginning 6:00 p.m. on July 22 through 11:00 p.m. on July 24. During the event, every patron who donates $1.00 for cancer research can purchase a regular size ice cream cone for an additional dollar. All proceeds from the fund raiser will be divided between the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Susan G. Komen Central/South Jersey Chapter.
“We recently have seen a loved one go through chemotherapy for testicular cancer and we have numerous friends who have dealt with breast cancer, so these are two causes that are very near to our hearts,” said George Berkelbach, who has owned the ice-cream shop with his wife, Marita, for the past quarter-century. “Our family has seen many cases of cancer and we want to find a cure.”
