NORTHFIELD, NJ – Two partners at the law firm of Petro Cohen Petro Matarazzo received recognition as 2016 New Jersey Super Lawyers: Frank A. Petro and Barry D. Cohen. The research team at Super Lawyers bestows the honorable distinction annually on no more than five percent of the lawyers in the state.
A Thomson Reuters business, Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The research team makes annual selections using a patented multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates, and peer reviews by practice area. The result is a credible, comprehensive, and diverse listing of exceptional attorneys.
Frank Petro’s nomination marks his twelfth consecutive year on the prestigious list. Mr. Petro is a founding partner and heads the workers’ compensation department of the firm. He is certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Workers’ Compensation Law Attorney and has held this certification since its inception in 1998. This is the highest specialty certification available to New Jersey workers’ compensation lawyers.
Mr. Petro is a former President of the leading professional organization for NJ workers’ compensation lawyers and judges, The Justice James H. Coleman, Jr. New Jersey Workers’ Compensation American Inn of Court, which has a membership of approximately 150 lawyers and judges throughout the State. He also served as one of 38 National Trustees for the American Inns of Court Foundation, the nation’s leading professional organization promoting legal excellence, professionalism, ethics, and civility for United States judges and lawyers, and held the position of Treasurer from 2008 to 2012. Almost 150,000 judges and lawyers across the United States have participated in the American Inns of Court program.
In addition to his recognition on the NJ Super Lawyer List, Mr. Petro received recognition on every “Best Lawyers in America®” list for New Jersey Workers’ Compensation since 1995 and is the only workers’ compensation attorney in the Atlantic City metro area who has this distinction. He also holds an “A/V” rating from the world’s leading lawyer referral service, Martindale-Hubbell.
Barry Cohen is a founding partner at Petro Cohen Petro Matarazzo as well and heads the personal injury department of the firm. For more than 30 years, his practice has been civil litigation, specializing in personal injury, maritime, product liability, professional negligence, and construction accident claims. Since 2001, Mr. Cohen has been certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Civil Trial Attorney, which is the highest specialty certification available to NJ civil trial attorneys.
Mr. Cohen received recognition on the NJ Super Lawyer List for personal injury nine times. Throughout his career, he has served on a variety of boards and associations, including New Jersey Trial Lawyers Association and Board of Trustees, Vincent S. Haneman America Inn of Court, and many others. He is also the recipient of numerous service awards including Outstanding Service to the Community and Bar – Atlantic County Bar Association, Young Leadership Award – Federation of Jewish Agencies of Atlantic County, Humanitarian Award for Outstanding Community Service – National Conference of Christians and Jews, and Volunteer of the Year Award – Volunteer Center of Atlantic County.
