Peter Shields Inn and Cape May Winery Pair Fine Dining and Award-Winning Wines

By Press Release

CAPE MAY– As Fall settles over Cape May, the Peter Shields Inn and Cape May Winery and Vineyard have teamed up to offer a five-course gourmet dinner paired with five top-ranked local wines. A popular seasonal tradition at the Peter Shields Inn and Restaurant, this special dinner-and-wine offering will be held October 15 and 29, and November 12.
Dining at the Peter Shields Restaurant consistently wins high praise from guests and top rankings from industry standard-bearers such as the Zagat Guide, which for the eighth year in a row, conferred its top ratings on the restaurant in 2010. This season’s dinner-and-wine offerings will showcase several menu selections created specially for these dinners such as Oyster Pie, Grilled Elk, Potato-wrapped Arctic Char and Pear Wellington. Menus will vary for each of the three evenings. The price per person for the dinner-and-wine pairing is $69. Tax and gratuity are additional. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m.
“We are pleased to celebrate this Peter Shields tradition with new friends,” said new owner, Cathy Pelaez, who, along with her brother, Jeff Gernitis, bought the inn and restaurant earlier this summer. “We’re also looking forward to building on our legacy of fine dining and superior service and, perhaps, adding some new traditions as we celebrate future seasons together.”
Darren Hesington, winemaker at Cape May Winery, applauds the Peter Shields Inn and Restaurant for continuing the dinner-and-wine pairings. He also credits the restaurant with being the first to offer pairing dinners with the Cape May Winery four years ago. Hesington, a career winemaker for 25 years, has been making wine in Cape May since 2003. He will preside over the wine portion of the dinner-and-wine evenings and share with guests why he chose particular wines for various courses.
“I bend the rules occasionally,” Hesington admitted, “I like to work in little surprises when I do these dinners.”
Reservations are required for the dinners. Guests can make reservations by calling (609) 884-9090.
