OCEAN CITY – With an unemployment rate of more than seven percent, the Atlantic City area is still reeling from the effects of the economic downturn and recent casino closings. For residents in need, the Friends of Jean Webster offers meals in a non-judgmental, supportive and serene atmosphere. With the help of a $5,000 grant from the Ocean City Home Charitable Foundation, the nonprofit organization will be able to offer 2,500 meals to those in need.
“Sister Jean Webster was a wonderful example of generosity and dedication,” said Jean Jacobson, President of the Ocean City Home Charitable Foundation. “For 25 years, Sister Jean selflessly served her neighbors in need, and we are proud to help the Friends of Jean Webster continue her legacy.”
“We at Sister Jeans Kitchen are very grateful for the support of the larger Atlantic City area community,” said Reverend John R. Scotland, Executive Director of the Friends of Jean Webster. “In honor of our founder, Jean Webster, a warrior for justice and compassion, we graciously accept this wonderful gift from the Ocean City Home Charitable Foundation.”
The grant awarded to Friends of Jean Webster was one of 21 grants presented to area nonprofit organizations at the Ocean City Home Charitable Foundation’s awards reception in December 2015. The Foundation presented a total of $90,000 in grants at the reception, bringing the organization’s cumulative donation total to more than $1,173,100 since 2005.
