OCEAN CITY – For homeless women in the Atlantic City area, the Marie Adelaide Center serves as a refuge where they can make a telephone call, do their laundry or watch a movie. With the help of a grant from the Ocean City Home Charitable Foundation, women visiting the Marie Adelaide Center can also benefit from a nutrition program. A $5,000 grant awarded by the Foundation will fund the provision of fresh produce and dairy products, as well as nutrition classes.
“For women who may not know where they are getting their next meal, it can be difficult to focus on healthy food choices,” said Jean Jacobson, President of the Ocean City Home Charitable Foundation. “We’re pleased to help the Marie Adelaide Center offer both the education and the ingredients to improve the health of women in need.”
“The overall health of our clients has improved as a result of our nutrition programs,” said Patricia Prendergast, founder of the Marie Adelaide Center. “From lower cholesterol numbers to healthier blood sugar levels, our clients are benefiting from the program funded by this grant.”
The grant awarded to the Marie Adelaide Center was one of 21 grants presented to area nonprofit organizations at the Ocean City Home Charitable Foundations awards reception in December 2015. The Foundation presented a total of $90,000 in grants at the reception, bringing the organization’s cumulative donation total to more than $1,173,100 since 2005.
