OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce announces that Ocean City Free Public Library Director, Karen Mahar, will receive the 2017 Salute to Working Women Award and will be honored at the Chamber of Commerce Luncheon on April 26 at The Flanders Hotel. The award recognizes women in business for their outstanding professional and personal achievements.
Mahar grew up in Ocean City. She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy Academy and Villanova University with a degree in communications and a master’s degree in library science. Mahar is an Ocean City resident and mother of three children.
When she first came to work for the library, it was located at Sixth Street and Ocean Avenue, adjacent to Ocean City High School. She was part of the move to the library’s current location at the Ocean City Community Center where she oversaw much of the modernization of the facility. Additionally, Mahar is an active member of the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
The Keynote Speaker for the event is Lt. Governor and Secretary of State Kim Guadagno. Guadagno was elected New Jersey’s first Lieutenant Governor in November 2009 and was sworn into office on Jan. 19, 2010. She was re-elected to a second term on Nov. 5, 2013. In addition to serving as the Lt. Governor, Kim Guadagno serves as the 33rd Secretary of State.
