COURT HOUSE — Minnie Nunes of Whitesboro has worked as a Housekeeper on the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Cape Regional Medical Center since May, 2003. This week, Nunes was honored as the 2010 Service Excellence of the Year recipient during the annual Hospital Week Picnic held May 12.
Nunes was given the October, 2009 Service Excellence of the Month Award after being nominated by Linda McGovern, case manager, Social Work/Case Management and nurse Leann May.
“Minnie always goes above her housekeeping assignments while on PCU. Many times you will see Minnie filling a water pitcher for a patient or getting linens for a patient or family member. If a bed needs to be cleaned that is not in her assigned section, she will take the time to get the job done. Minnie is professional and friendly to all the patients, visitors, and staff.”
The staff cheered and applauded when Nunes was announced as the award recipient. Nunes was presented a commemorative plaque and a $1,000 travel voucher to enjoy with her family.
“I am overwhelmed” stated Nunes. “I don’t know what else to say, except, thank you everyone!” Nunes and her husband, Barrington, have eight children and many, many grandchildren. They came to the U.S. in 1995 from Jamaica where she worked as a dressmaker. She loves to sing and dance; her favorite music is Reggae.
