PISCATAWAY, NJ – The New Jersey Golf Foundation (NJGF), the charitable arm of the New Jersey Section, PGA of America (NJPGA), announced today that that Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) has teed up a new round of support to help the NJGF bring golf to tens of thousands of young boys and girls across the Garden State.
“Horizon has been a longstanding supporter of the NJGF, and we are thrilled that the company will join us in a multi-year effort to help inspire young people to embrace the sport of golf,” said Chris Hunt, Executive Director, NJGF. “Health, wellness and physical activity are priorities of both organizations, and through our new collaboration, we will integrate more of these elements into all programming, including our various youth golf initiatives.”
In 2016, through this new multi-year relationship, Horizon BCBSNJ will work with the NJGF to integrate health & wellness initiatives into the NJGF’s dynamic line-up of programming that supports the Foundation’s three core pillars – youth, military and special needs – and provides access for individuals from all backgrounds to experience the game of golf.
Horizon BCBSNJ will also serve as a sponsor of the NJGF’s nationally acclaimed Golf In Schools program at two Newark-based schools: St. Michael School & Saint Benedict’s Prep (7th & 8th grades). Golf In Schools is an initiative that introduces golf to children by incorporating the sport into the physical education curriculum at elementary and middle schools, under the guidance of PGA Professionals. The program currently impacts more than 110,000 boys and girls at more than 200 schools across NJ on an annual basis.
In addition, Horizon BCBSNJ will join Barnabas Health, Provident Bank and Beacon Trust as a Founding Sponsor of the new, state-of-the-art NJPGA/NJGF Headquarters located at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club, in Bedminster, NJ.
“Horizon proudly supports the New Jersey Golf Foundation and its efforts to introduce golf to young New Jerseyans as an outlet to stay physically active and to learn a skill that can be developed and enjoyed over a lifetime,” said Jonathan R. Pearson, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility for Horizon BCBSNJ.
