FOLSOM — With plans underway to bring natural gas to Villas, representatives from South Jersey Gas and the engineering firm contracted to design the system will be in the area Thursday, Feb. 5 to begin design of the gas pipeline extension.
“We have received approval for the funds necessary to initiate this project and we’re excited to be moving forward with the engineering phase,” stated Bob Fatzinger, vice president, customer and distribution operations at SJG, in a release. “Residents can anticipate seeing construction activity on Breakwater Road in early March, weather permitting.”
The extension project will begin on Breakwater Road, where natural gas main currently exists, and will follow the county road to Fishing Creek Road then Bayshore Drive.
Following installation of the gas main, South Jersey Gas will install additional main and services to customers in the area, beginning with the areas that express the greatest interest in receiving natural gas service.
The installation of the natural gas main in Villas is, the release stated, just the first step in what SJG hopes will be a series of initiatives intended to assist customers in achieving greater energy efficiency, reducing their carbon footprint and creating jobs in the southern portion of the state.
The utility has filed a petition with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities requesting approval to implement five energy efficiency programs during the next two years totaling more than $17 million. Along with the extension of gas service to Villas, those programs will provide a significant opportunity for residents to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and businesses.
