THE WILDWOODS – On Sunday, Oct. 8, Morey’s Piers associates hosted a Hurricane Relief fundraiser for their fellow Puerto Rican colleagues at Jumbo’s Restaurant on Mariner’s Pier. Morey’s Piers hires approximately 140 employees from Puerto Rico and after learning about the devastating effects Hurricane Maria had on their country, their homes and their families living there, fellow co-workers wanted to jump into action and help.
Tickets for the fundraiser were sold in advance and at the door for $25 per person and included dinner and drinks. “It was heartwarming to see so many of our co-workers come out and show their support,” said Denise Beckson, Director of Human Resources of Morey’s Piers. “It turned out to be quite a fun evening of love and laughter amongst our team members.”
The fundraiser raised $5,492 which Morey’s Piers matched for a grand total of $10,984. Along with hosting the benefit, the company also provided assistance in additional ways. Satellite telephones were purchased and sent with associates to Puerto Rico in the hopes that communication could be established with employees still trying to get in touch with their families. Employee housing was also provided to associates who needed a place to stay under the current circumstances.
Maggie Warner, spokesperson for Morey’s Piers, reiterated Denise’s sentiments by stating, “It is wonderful to work for a company filled with so much compassion and kindness for each other. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to our fellow associates and to all those affected by the recent hurricanes.”
