COURT HOUSE — Middle Township is set to appoint 12 residents to a newly created housing advisory board.
The board’s primary mission will be to advise and provide recommendations on how to meet the township’s Coalition on Affordable Housing (COAH) obligations as well as to provide safe, quality housing to low and moderate income families while addressing the overall needs of the entire community.
In a previous release, Deputy Mayor Susan Atkinson DeLanzo announced that the township was “looking for assistance from the concerned members of the community to help guide us through the housing obligation the township is facing. We need a diverse group of individuals who are willing to roll up their sleeves and work hard.”
After sifting through resumes over the past several weeks, the township has selected the following individuals to complete the sleeve-rolling hard work: Brent Anderson, Dainiel Auld, Nancy Hagan, Sam Kelly, Catherine A. Lorentz, Jo Ann Marker, Michael McGurk, Bob Noel, Joseph O’Connor, Lamont R. Tibbits, Miles Truesdell Jr. and Susan Van Rossum.
A resolution on the draft agenda for township committee’s Monday, Aug. 3 meeting stated that “the board and its members shall serve at the discretion of township committee.” According to previous releases, the board is expected to meet monthly.
The idea of the board was came about following several large affordable housing applications that went before the township zoning board. Large numbers of Rio Grande and Court House residents turned out at those meetings to oppose the 100 percent affordable housing apartment complexes that were proposed in those neighborhoods.
With a majority of residents against that type of development, this board is expected to help find an alternative.
