MIDDLE TOWNSHIP PRESS RELEASE:
STEVE BARRY ANNOUNCES MIDDLE TOWNSHIP’S APPLICATION FOR STATE HOUSING REHABILITATION GRANT
PROGRAM’S RECENT MODIFICATIONS HELP MORE FAMILIES IN THESE DIFFICULT ECONOMIC TIMES
COURT HOUSE — Steve Barry, Township Committee official, has announced Middle Township’s application for a $ 200,000 State grant to help qualified homeowners improve their homes. The home rehabilitation program provides assistance for home repairs necessary to remedy serious deficiencies and includes roofs, heating systems, insulation, plumbing, and related work.
Rehabilitation assistance is available to qualified homeowners and is paid back at the time the home is sold. Eligibility is based on the following ceilings for 2008 household incomes.
1 PERSON HOUSEHOLD $37,650
2 PERSON HOUSEHOLD $43,000
3 PERSON HOUSEHOLD $48,400
4 PERSON HOUSEHOLD $53,750
5 PERSON HOUSEHOLD $58,050
6 PERSON HOUSEHOLD $62,350
7 PERSON HOUSEHOLD $66,650
8 PERSON HOUSEHOLD $70,950
For the first time in Middle Township, mobile homes with serious deficiencies are now eligible for assistance. The program also provides for installation of handicapped ramps when medically necessary.
Committeeman Barry stated: “I made suggestions for these changes to the program because disappointed taxpayers have told me that the program in the past did not cover heaters for mobile homes or installation of ramps when a loved one became disabled. In these tough economic times, we need to take advantage of funding opportunities to help as many taxpayers as possible.”
Pending approval of state funds, Middle Township’s Rehabilitation Inspector will prepare a work list for bids. The Township will oversee the work of the low bidder and pay for the work directly following the Inspector’s approval of completed improvements.
Interested parties should contact Jill Zarharchuck, Director of Middle Township’s Economic Development as soon as possible at 609-465-8731. Homeowners are added to a waiting list in the order applications are received.
