Middle Holds Informational COAH Sessions

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE — At the April 20 Middle Township Committee meeting, Committeeman Steve Barry announced two information sessions in relation to the plan endorsement proc-ess and the state Council On Affordable Housing (COAH) regulations.
The meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, May 6 and Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m. at the Middle Township High School cafeteria located at 300 East Atlantic Avenue.
The first meeting will be informational regarding COAH and the township’s current obli-gations and challenges.
The information will be presented by the township’s coah counsel, Douglas McCollister and by planner Marcia Shifffman. Questions in advance are appreciated and can be sent to the township’s COAH housing liaison, Jill Zarharchuck at jzarhar-chuck@middletownship.com or by mail to 33 Mechanic Street, Court House, NJ 08210.
The second meeting to be held on June 4 will be presided over by Bob Noel, chairman of the township’s Master Plan/Plan Endorsement Committee. The format will be dividing the public into smaller groups where each group will have the opportunity to present and share their ideas on fulfilling the township’s COAH obligation.
“COAH as presently set up is the enemy of good planning in a rural community like Mid-dle Township,” Barry stated. “It is an enemy that we have to fully understand in order to fight with a good chance of success.”
