MAC Chief Outreach Strategist Mary Stewart of Townbank, N.J. is the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) Volunteer of the Month for March 2018. MAC Volunteer Coordinator, Barbara Hubmaster, nominated Mary for this honor for having organized an art exhibit and auction as part of MAC’s Carroll Gallery exhibit from April 28 through Oct. 9, 2017. The exhibit, “Cape May’s Stormy Past: From the Pages of The First Resort,” was curated by Ben Miller and featured iconic storms that have ravaged Cape May. Mary organized an added feature of the exhibit in which local artists displayed their original artwork interpreting the exhibit’s theme, then auctioned off the paintings to the public on Friday Oct. 6, which helped to raise funds for MAC’s mission.
“Mary has deep connections to the local Cape May artist community because she is an artist, herself,” said Hubmaster. “Mary volunteered to organize this unique part of the exhibit. The artwork added a great deal to the experience for visitors. We are very grateful for all that Mary does to further MAC’s mission to promote the cultural enrichment of the Cape May region.”
