Lund’s Fisheries Supporting Lower Township Recreation Programs

By Press Release

VILLAS — Jeff Reichle, president of Lund’s Fisheries Inc., has joined “Friends of Lower Township” as a gold level business sponsor of township recreational programs.
Recreational programs this summer included Independence Day fireworks and free summer concerts.
“I think local businesses need to get involved… ” said Reichle. “It shouldn’t be totally up to the taxpayers to bear that burden especially in hard times.”
“We should do what we can to help support the community, this is where we live and raise our kids and grandkids,” he continued. “We’ve been here for generations and hope to be here for future generations.”
Lund’s Fisheries, located on Ocean Drive, continues to grow including a new scallop processing operation.
Reichle, who has been a township resident for 48 years, said he was pleased with his Lower Township location.
“We have one of the best inlets on the East Coast of the United States,” he said. “Having the Coast Guard base here means it gets maintained pretty regularly.”
The Port of Cape May is the second busiest seafood port on the East Coast and fifth in nation.
Lund’s Fisheries has 28 boats operating from the township including 13 vessels that it owns. Reichle said his focus was to expand into further processing the product they are already producing. He said he also hopes to increase local jobs.
“We handle everything that is produced in the area, summer flounder, black bass, mackerel, two species of squid and scallops,” he said.
Reichle said 60 percent of what Lund’s Fisheries produces is exported around the world including Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Vietnam, Eastern and Western Europe, South America, Russia, Iceland and West Africa.
