CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE—The Lower Township Chamber of Commerce honored Atlantic Cape Community College with a 50-Year Milestone Award Oct. 13, in recognition of the college’s 50th anniversary.
Dr. Mitchell Levy, vice president of Student Affairs and dean of the Cape May County Campus; Jean McAlister, dean of Resource Development & President/Board of Trustees Operations; and Tammy DeFranco, director, CMCC Student Services & Campus Management; received the award from Cape May County Freeholder Director Gerald M. Thornton during a chamber dinner at Icona Resort.
In December 1963, the State Department of Education granted approval for the establishment of Atlantic Community College, which became the second college to be organized by the state on April 14, 1964. The college opened its doors to students in September 1966, using facilities rented from Atlantic City High School. Atlantic Cape now has full-service campuses in Mays Landing, Atlantic City and Cape May Court House. In 1999, the college officially became a joint college between Atlantic and Cape May counties and was renamed Atlantic Cape Community College.
The Cape May County Campus, located at 341 Court House-South Dennis Road in Cape May Court House, opened in 2005 and features a 100-seat lecture hall, 19 classrooms, and science and computer labs, and provides support services including counseling, testing, tutoring and financial aid.
