RIO GRANDE – Raising help and hope for the hungry is a top priority for ShopRite associates who band together each year for a five week contest held during National Hunger Awareness Month in September. Sponsored each year by ShopRite and General Mills, this year’s ShopRite Partners In Caring contest issued a new challenge to ShopRite associates – to raise an unprecedented $1 million to support food banks in the communities ShopRite serves.
Showing their commitment to those in need through the collection of donations at checkout and in-store events, ShopRite associates met the challenge head-on, raising $1 million towards fighting hunger in their local communities. Of the more than 240 ShopRites stores across six states, each of the 45 winning stores will have two associates, selected by their peers, featured on a special-edition Cheerios box to be sold exclusively at ShopRites stores during the month of March. In addition, each store was awarded $500.00 to donate to a hunger-fighting charity of its choice.
Among this year’s winning stores is the ShopRite of Rio Grande, in Rio Grande, NJ , which selected Associate Peggy Abadie from North Cape May, NJ and Associate Katlyn Pecoraro of Mays Landing, NJ to be honored on 200,000 special-edition Cheerios boxes for their store’s commitment. The box will be unveiled during a ceremony at the ShopRite of Rio Grande, 1700 Rt. 47 South, Rio Grande, NJ on Tue., March 20, 2012 at 11:00 am. Scheduled to attend are Margie Barham, Executive Director of the Southern Branch of the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Vera Smith, director of Cape Human Resources and Jane Thompson of Holy Redeemer Food Pantry.
