Local Resident Receives National Powerboat Racing Award

Ann Fitzgerald of Rio Grande was recently presented with the Henry Lauterbach Excellence in Powerboat Racing Award.
The ceremony took place at the Webanco Arena Awards Banquet in Wheeling, West Virgina. This was held at the 9th Annual Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta held on August 29-31. This event was sanctioned by the American Powerboat Association.
During her thirty-year career, Ann was a five-time national Hi-Point champion, two-time national champion, three-time North American champion. Ann also held the world competition speed record for her class for over three years. She was inducted into the APBA Hall of Champions and received APBA’s most prestigious award, the Honor SQD, the highest honor presented to any APBA member.
Ann is also the race chairman for the upcoming Wildwoods Hydrofest Governor’s Cup Boat Race. This event will be held on September 13-14 on Sunset Lake in Wildwood Crest.
