Local Farm Goods Bring Eager Buyers

STONE HARBOR – As part of the borough’s centennial summer of events, the Farmer’s Market officially opened June 15 with Mayor Suzanne Walters cutting a ribbon made of parsley. The market will be open every Sunday throughout the summer beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Water Tower Lot on Second Avenue and 95th Street.
Dozens of vendors will be there all summer long to welcome residents and visitors to sample and purchase local produce, meats, olive oils, applesauce, fresh-made donuts, crepes, coffee, and other merchandise.
“Every year, the market grows,” said Walters. “When we first started (the farmer’s market), we were a little concerned about having it on Sunday but we soon found that everyone looks forward to it during the week.”
This is the sixth year for the Farmer’s Market and the fourth in which Council member Joan Kramar is overseeing it. “It’s really great,” Kramar said. “We have added several new vendors this year, including Rick’s Seafood, City 2 Shore (gourmet oils, vinegars and sea salts), Anita’s Guacamole, Jalma Farms, and Under the Coconut Tree, just to name a few.” With the returning vendors and new, there are 20 total.
“People can come here Sunday morning for breakfast and purchase Jersey Fresh fruits and veggies, meats, cheeses and all kinds of things to have for lunch and dinner.”
